24 Seniors Recognized in National Merit Competition

Congratulations to the 24 Hawken seniors who received recognition in the 2025 National Merit Scholarship Program.

Hawken’s 14 semifinalists from both the Gates Mills campus and the Mastery School of Hawken (MSH) are seniors Matthew Chang, Andrew Farrell, Isabella Hsieh, John Joyce, Elizabeth Lee, Chloe Leng, Delicia Liao, Devesh Mohapatra, Luke Nelson, Aiden Tian, Daniel Xu, Ava Bauschatz (MSH), James Ryman (MSH), and Gabriel Swai (MSH). Semifinalists will be notified of their advancement to the finalist level in February of 2025.
 
Ten additional seniors were named commended scholars in the National Merit Scholarship Program: Sarah Cai, Jack Cencula, London Elersich, Sarah Liu, Dilan Nadkarni, William O’Neill, Maia Tritt, Teddy Zheng, Jonathan Bala (MSH), and Zoltan Onutz (MSH).
 
The National Merit Scholarship Program is an academic competition for recognition and scholarships that began in 1955. The semifinalists represent an elite group that makes up less than one percent of high school seniors nationally and includes the highest scoring Preliminary SAT test takers in each state.
